Q:Can you explain all the options in settings?
- Internal Network - This option allows quick switching between internal and external panel addresses
- RSS Password - If you have an RSS password set, then enter it here. If not, leave this setting empty
- Int Panel Address - Allows you to enter an internal address or resolvable name for your control panel
- Int Panel Network Port - The port that you have set up for on your control panel
- Ext Panel Address - As above, but a second option for an externally facing address
- Ext Panel Network Port - As above, but a second option for an externally facing port number
- Idle Timeout - If the keys aren't being pressed, then the connection will time out and disconnect saving battery energy and reducing data consumption
- Network Latency - If you are on a slow network, then increasing this time (milliseconds) will stop the software expecting a result so fast and causing bad data. Obviously, the data network needs to be of reasonable quality
- Haptic Key Feedback - Causes the phone to vibrate when you touch each keypad key, thus providing some feedback to a press
- Key Tones - A multimedia beep when you press a virtual key


Q: I see a message saying 'No IP' what does it mean ?
A: When the software tries to connect to your alarm panel Ethernet module, it opens up the relevant IP address or network name that you have entered in the int/ext panel address and port options. If the software cannot reach that IP address, then it reports 'No IP'. This may be because you have no network connection, or you may be pointing to an invalid name or address. If on an external network connection, then you need to ensure that you have forwarded the panel port on your router. That means routing the external WAN port to your internal panel address port 10001.


Q: Will the application run on any Android device ?
A: We have tested several devices and the application performs well on the development emulator. However, there may be some devices that will not run the application. Please contact us with any issues that you have with a particular device. It can be difficult covering the multitude of Android based devices that are available.


Q:The application isn't connecting when I am on a 3G network. Will it work ?
A: The latency timing of the application may need to be adjusted. The latency setting is in the settings. Try adjusting up by a few hundred milliseconds to see if the application will connect. We are working on a a workaround for adaptive network speeds.


Q: I have an RSS password code set with Honeywell's RSS application. Can I use the same password.
A: Yes, if you have set a password, then you must apply the same password using the 'Settings' menu for the app.


Q: The app has an 'Idle Timeout' why would I need to have one set ?
A: The current Ethernet modules only allow one concurrent connection. If you have a '0' timeout set, then the app will constantly talk to the panel with that connection. However, the app will disconnect if backgrounded in order to preserve battery life.


Q: The app has 'Int' and 'Ext' address options and a selector to enable Internal or External Network - why ?
A: This can be used to quickly connect from your WiFi network or external network address. It can also be used to connect to separate control panels.


Q: The website mentions being able to run this app from a serial cable. How can this be achieved?
A: A separate piece of Windows freeware software called a serial proxy service needs to be installed on a local PC with the serial connection. The serial proxy supplies an Ethernet port from the PC and the VirtualKeypad app can connect to this in the same way as the Wiznet module.


Q: Does the app work over GSM ?
A: Yes. If the GSM connection is reasonable, then the app will perform well. If the connection is not reasonable, then you may have to disconnect and reconnect by tapping the LCD on the VirtualKeypad. There is also a network latency option in the settings menu. You can increase this latency to for slower networks where you are receiving too many disconnections.


Q: Is it safe to share my panels network connection over the internet?
A: We would advise caution on this and suggest that you look at the level of security you require and consider using a VPN based external connection if you need to. Consult an IT expert if you are unsure.


Q: Do I need to use the default network port settings that my panel had ?
A: No, this isn't necessary. Just remember to match these with the app settings and avoid low numbers.
